Mount Toubkal & Sahara Desert Trekking Package: 5 Days

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Mount Toubkal

At 9 am, we’ll pick you up at your accommodation in Marrakech and we’ll travel by minibus to Imlil. In this Atlas town, we’ll start a trekking route that will take us through Mount Toubkal, admiring the valleys of Mizane and Oued Rhirhaia, as well as the plain of Haouz and small villages clinging to the slopes of the mountains, such as Asni or Aremd. An unforgettable landscape!

The hiking route will take us to Sidi Chamharouch, the so-called “Devil’s Sultan”. We’ll discover the origin of its curious name while taking a break for a picnic.

After lunch, we’ll continue our hike to a mountain lodge on Mount Toubkal, located at 3206 meters (10518 feet) above sea level. After six hours of hiking, a comforting dinner will be waiting for us at the accommodation. Then it’ll be time to rest up for the next day.

Day 2: Mount Toubkal – Imlil

We’ll have breakfast and start our hike to the summit of Mount Toubkal. With its 4167 meters (13671.26 feet), it’s the highest peak in Morocco. The hike is quite straightforward, but the steep slope of the terrain will make it seem difficult in parts. But the views along the way will make it all worthwhile! This place has been described as “the most fabulous mountains in Africa”. And with the incredible views it’s not hard to understand why!

After a picnic in the afternoon, we’ll walk back down to Imlil, where we’ll enjoy a tasty dinner and spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 3: Imlil – Ouarzazate – Dadès Gorge

After a filling breakfast in Imlil, we’ll depart by minibus to explore the Atlas Mountains in a more comfortable way. During the trip, we’ll pass through many Amazigh villages and you’ll also have the opportunity to visit Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified city and a World Heritage Site. In fact, it’s the site of many famous movies such as The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, and Gladiator.

We’ll continue the tour by minibus to Ouarzazate, where we’ll stop for lunch and learn about its legendary past. Also, if you wish, you can visit its film studios on your own.

We’ll continue crossing the roads of the interior of Morocco in the direction of the Dadès Gorge. We’ll finally reach the accommodation in this spectacular place, where we’ll have dinner and rest for the next day.

Day 4: Dadès Gorge – Todra Gorge – Merzouga

After enjoying a tasty breakfast, we’ll head off to the Todra Gorge. Get your cameras ready to photograph this breathtaking gorge that divides the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll have a short break for lunch, and we’ll enter the desert of Merzouga.

Then we’ll enjoy a camel ride at sunset, a unique experience ending in a haima camp in Merzouga. Here we’ll have a delicious dinner before watching the stars under the desert sky. We’ll camp here overnight.

Day 5: Merzouga – Marrakech

Rise and shine! On our fifth and final day, we’ll get up bright and early to watch the sunrise in the desert of Merzouga. Again, we’ll cross the different landscapes of dunes taking a camel ride. Then we’ll return to the camp for breakfast and prepare our luggage. Then it’s time to say goodbye, you know what they say, all good things must come to an end!

We’ll return to your hotel or riad in Marrakech arriving between 5 pm and 6 pm approximately.

The route includes 4 nights of accommodation in mountain lodges, guesthouses, and a haima camp in the desert of Merzouga. We’ll provide all meals in the Atlas Mountains, while in the desert you’ll have breakfast and dinner included.
